The HRSC DTM is a derived dataset created by the MarsExpress/HRSC instrument on ESA's Mars Express.
The data can be downloaded from the Planetary Science Archive, as of this writing (April 2008) level 5 data up to orbit 563 has been uploaded to this directory. See below for a detailed instruction of how to process this data.
1.1. Ingesting Level 5 DTM into QGIS
- Check which data you want by downloading the HRSC footprint dataset found in the dataset section of this site.
Download the required dataset(s) from this directory.
Rename the DT4.IMG to DT4.BSQ.
- Create a HDR and prj file using the script provided in the tools section.
- Start QGIS and add the BSQ file as a new raster layer.
- Open your GRASS location and run r.in.gdal for this layer.
- Run r.null to set the correct null value.
On, HRSC view, a special site dedicated to HRSC data by the University of Berlin, a larger set of level 4 data is available. This requires more processing to be directly available in a GIS program. Software for this is available at the same site.
