Re:

Dear all,

The field of planetary sciences started in the 60s and 70s as NASA realized there were no scientists able to analyse the data coming from their planetary probes. Now it is time for a new generation of planetary scientists to come together and shape the future of the field.

At a recent meeting of the NPP (Dutch Platform for Planetary Research) I was asked to see if there is interest in the community of young planetary scientists working in the Netherlands (and beyond) to join forces.

Why? There are quite a few young researchers working in the field of planetary sciences at several institutions in the Netherlands. I think we can learn a lot from each other by once in a while telling each other what we are doing, sticking our heads together to solve common problems, and keeping each other informed about what directions our individual institutions (tutors) are taking.

If you are interested in joining the group feel free to register at this website and reply to this thread telling us what your area of research is, and who you are.

Feel free to forward this email to any other young planetary scientists who you think might be interested.

Regards,

Roderik Koenders

Re: Kick-off Young NPP

Hi all,

I'm Kartik Kumar, and I'm a PhD student at Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands.

My research topic is the outer ring system around Uranus, specifically looking at the dynamics of Mab and the mu-ring and the interactions.

For my MSc thesis I worked on fuel-efficient trajectories to the Moon, by studying the Weak Stability Boundary, which describes a chaotic region of phase-space. I looked at this by studying the Circular Restricted 3-Body Problem.

I have a great deal of interest in planetary sciences and related projects and am always looking to meet new people in the field.

Cheers,

Kartik

Re: Kick-off Young NPP

Hi All,

I'm Akos Kereszturi, geologis, post-doc researcher in Hungary, interested in planetary science. My main topics are surface morphology, past and present water on Mars (erosional features, sediments, climate), lava channels on Moon, Mars, Mercury, tectonic features on Europa, surface features of minor bodies, comparative planetology, analog field work on Earth, and astrobiological issues of Mars, like past and present surface conditions.

I would be happy to collaborate with anybody in a field of common interst under planetary science and related topics.

Best,
Akos

Re: Kick-off Young NPP

Thank you, Roderik!

It's a great idea! There certainly are quite a few young scientists working in planetary sciences in the Netherlands and planet Earth in general. It would be great if we could get in touch with each other to collaborate on projects.

I'm a geologist, about to submit my MSc thesis on hyperspectral characterisation of mineralogy on the surface of Mars, at ITC, the Facuty of Geo-information Science and Earth Observation at the University of Twente.

I'm especially interested in metamorphic processes and remote sensing of Mars, but I'm partial to all geological exploration of terrestrial planets. Personally, I'm quite excited about the Mars Sample Return mission.
